Department of Radiology
The department of radiology manages devices, for X-ray, fluoroscope, CT, MRI and Radioisotope Imaging. Radiologist and doctors from several departments use the devices in cooperation with technicians for diagnostic purposes and to assess the effect of treatment. Image guided procedures (Interventional Radiology) for treatment and diagnostics take place. Furthermore, treatment for thyroid and prostate cancer by radioiodine therapy, and radiation therapy by x-rays and proton beam are conducted.
An important function of the radiology department is radiation control in the hospital. Usage of radiation in care is naturally for health purposes. However if radiation is used incorrectly it can be harmful. The radiology department thus accommodates to make sure patients can undergo procedures in an adequate and safe manner.
