Pediatric Cardiology and Nephrology

Our department aims at pediatric cardiovascular and renal diseases. We provide up-to-date medical treatments in these fields, and in patients with congenital heart diseases, provide specialized intensive treatment in collaboration with the surgical department.

Content of treatment

  • Cardiovascular diseases
We perform long-term managemens of the patients with congenital heart diseases since at birth to adulthood, and these include fetal echocardiography and cardiac catheterization. We are now accomplishing top-class treatment results nationwide in this field.
In outpatient clinic, we perform electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography (UCG), and provide medical diagnosis and course of treatment on the day of visit. We also perform exercise stress testing, Holter ECG monitoring, diagnostic imaging such as 3-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), and autonomic nervous system examinations.
  • Kawasaki disease
Kawasaki disease (KD) is the commonest acquired heart disease in childhood, and we provide long-term medical management for this disease from its acute to late chronic phase.
We propose the original "long-term" outpatient follow up system, based on the research both for the clarification of etiology, the evaluation of vascular disorder, and the elucidation of mechanism for progression of arteriosclerosis. We also establish the medical cooperation division for outpatients and doctors, and contribute to improvement of curative effect. In patients with a history of KD, early detection of arteriosclerotic lesion is considerably important, we therefore examine Flow Mediated Dilation(FMD), Carotid Ultrasound, and serum levels of lipid and fatty acid analysis, and choice the adequate treatment.
  • Renal diseases
We perform medical treatments for pediatric renal diseases such as nephritis and nephrotic syndrome with the examinations including renal biopsy. In patients with renal insufficiency, we perform renal replacement therapy such as continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), hemodialysis (HD), and renal transplantation, if required. We also treat patients with congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), and urinary tract infection in collaboration with the urology department.
