Anesthesiology

The historical origins of anesthesiology are with taking away pain during surgery. Nowadays anesthesiology is not limited to anesthesia during surgery, but covers a wide range of care. It encompasses medical management before, during and after surgery; the care for critically ill patients in intensive care units; Pain clinic practices and palliative care.
The core task of our department is to make sure the surgeries, of almost 5.000 patients annually, are conducted safely. In cooperation with the attending doctor of patients the best possible type of anesthesia for the individual patient is selected. In recent years there is an increase in operations of patients with an old age and coexisting illness. At our department we use a number of techniques in order to offer safe procedures to this group as well.
